The Knitting Stoves 250 Years – Dreaming Education
In the late 18th century, JF Oberlin reformed education and started a genuine flow of ideas. His first little schools, the “knitting stoves” were not only places for imparting knowledge, but above all else, places for “increasing understanding”. The goal was to develop intelligence, not to restrict it. Are these schools of the past outdated?
In the exhibition “The Knitting Stoves 250 Years – Dreaming Education”, the idea is not to rehash the past. To be sure, in the spirit of JF Oberlin, in the future, our children’s education will be synonymous with discovery, with the “knitting of ideas”, to open the way to modes of thinking in which people are at the centre of Creation, confident about their future and masters of their own destiny.
